Zavkhan is a sum that is located in the western part of Uvs aimag. The sum was originally established as the Setsen Zasag Khoshuu of Khalkhyn Zasagt khan, Khentii Sartuul Setsen Khan Bazar, Bogd Khaan State of Mongolia, and Setsen Sart Mountain khoshuu of Khan Taishir Uul Province in 1923 and founded in 1925 as Zavkhan. Area of 6.8 thousand km².
