Baruunburen  is a sum (district) of Selenge Province in northern Mongolia. Baruunburen sum was founded on August 3, 1924 in the south of Shiveet Mountain, named Baruunburen Khan Mountain Bogd Khan Mountain Province Bogd Khan Mountain Province. In 1959, it joined the Selenge province.

Baruunburen sum has 3007 inhabitants with 819 households. The total area of the sum is 281.5 thousand hectares, forests 93.9 thousand hectares, grazing area 153.3 thousand hectares, and 22.2 thousand hectares of land.

The Baruunburen sum is located 360 km from Ulaanbaatar, 220 km from Sukhbaatar, 120 km from Darkhan city and 65 km from Erdenet city. Baruunburen sum has abundant forests, rivers, fruits and wildlife, Burgaltai, Iven and Shuvuut rivers, Takhilt, and Naranbulag, Buduun and Khanan springs.
