The protection area covers 36400 ha. This beautiful mountain is one part of the midsection that belongs to Mongol-Altaic ranges and consists of Dund Khairkhan and Baga Khairkhan branches. The peak of Alag Khairkhan is 3783 m high, eternal frozen top. From here, Khukh sair, Tsakhir, Bosgo, Khatuu and Uliastai lakes are sourced.
