Khasagt Khairkhan mountain is situated in the territories of Sharga, Jargalant, Bayan-Uul and Taishir soums and is one of the mounts of Altaic branch ranges that deeply accesses into the Valley of Great Lakes. This mountain is the home for natural reserved animals like stag, ibex, wild-sheep and it was protected by national reserve by the order No. 17 of People’s Congress held in 1965. Lately, according to the Resolution No. 26, 1995 of the State Great Khural on update of the national protected area list, status of the mountain referring to the list of special protected area was confirmed. The reservation area covers 27448 ha. It has forest of Mongolian Altai mountain range branch where vegetation and fauna of khangai, steppe and gobi zone inhabit here. Khasagt Khairkhan is abundant of fauna. Rare animals of Mongolian Altai do inhabit in this area. As well as, deer, marten, wild sheep, ibex, snow cock, snow lepart and bearded vulture listed in the Red Book inhabit here. Moreover, the forest is abundant of lynx, common weasel, chipmunk and falk.
