About this place
Introduction to Bayanzag – The Flaming Cliffs of Mongolia
Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs, is one of the most famous natural and historical landmarks in Umnugobi province, southern Mongolia. The site is world-renowned for its striking red sandstone formations that glow brilliantly at sunrise and sunset, giving the cliffs their fiery name.
Bayanzag is not only beautiful but also historically significant. In the 1920s, American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first fossilized dinosaur eggs here, along with many dinosaur bones and ancient remains. Since then, Bayanzag has become one of the most important paleontological sites in the world, attracting scientists and travelers alike.
Visitors to Bayanzag can hike among the cliffs, enjoy the dramatic desert scenery, and imagine what the land looked like millions of years ago when dinosaurs roamed the area. The surrounding desert steppe also offers a chance to see camel herders, stay in traditional gers, and experience the authentic lifestyle of Gobi nomads.
For those who love history, adventure, and natural beauty, Bayanzag is a must-visit destination that perfectly captures the mystery and majesty of the Gobi Desert.
