Durvud

Durvud is a group of Mongolian inhabitants having Durvud accent. Also they are one of the four main Durvud Oirad provinces which were founded in 1400-1755.

Donoi, Dogshin, Erkh, and Emneg, four sons of the Duva Sokhor, elder of the Mongolian hierarchy, separated from their uncle , Dobu Mergen, and founded Durvud after their father died. Chinggis Khan is the branch of Dobu Mergen’s hierarchy and Durvuds and Borjigons are the Mongolian undoubtedly. They were living in the Yenisei and Erchis river in the 10th century, near to the Khalkh River in 12th century, and were under the reign of the Great Mongolia since 1206. Since the early 16th century, they counted as one of the four main Oirad provinces and inhabited in the Altai Mountain, dividing into Great, Little, Western and Eastern Durvuds.
Mongolian ger that Uvs’s people live is “Durvud ger”. They called it “Uuld ger”. It had 10-12 heads, 4-6 terems, and very slope wall. The number and angel of the wall has increased last years. The one feature of the wall wood is they use the 41 elms cut not as a circle but as a rectangular.
There are 70970 Durvuds, accounting 2.4 percent of the total population in Mongolia. 48.6 and 28.3 percent of Durvuds are living in Uvs province and Ulaanbaatar respectively.

Clothing
Durvuds call their deel “Debel” and “uch” with colored one. The men and girls’ deel is called “lavshig”. The women are wearing the single deel while wives wearing tsegdeg on it. Tsegdeg has heavy shoulder and onoo on back. Moreover, Durvuds call the hat “Makhlai” with rectangular head, which meaning that one of the four provinces of Oirad. In summer, men wear the white leather toortsog while women wear toortsog with 4 or 6 angels made of blue leather. The red ribbon on the hat expresses the not married women. In winter, everyone wears the “duulkha” hat and back of the hat is long to the collar of deel, having black inner and outer of the white lamb skin and blue green ed. They also use 4 different types of boots – Durvod gos, Kharchin gos, Mongol gos, and Kanchin. Everyone above 17-18 age have long hair whether he or she is. The hair of men has the silver decoration called “shireesen” and women’s has “boodog”. “Shirees zalgaa” of men is attached of triple black wire. The slope of women deel has “Khetech” and “Zuuvch”, having 7 wires, multiple colored sewing on the hip and liver, and earing called “tudug”.
