Alag Khairkhan mountain located in the territory of Bugat soum of Gobi-Altai aimag is a beautiful area rich by wild sheep, wild-sheep, ibex, snow-leopard, snowcock and medicinal herbs like vansemberuu, roseroot, bourtree, Aconitum Kuznezoffii and Saussurea involucrata. Due to the improper picking of medicinal herbs by unlimited numbers and diminition of some types of creatures and plants by the human manipulation, this landscape including the mountain itself was started to be protected by the state with the Resolution No. 43 of the State Ikh Khural in 1996. The protection area covers 36400 ha. This beautiful mountain is one part of the midsection that belongs to Mongol-Altaic ranges and consists of Dund Khairkhan and Baga Khairkhan branches. The peak of Alag Khairkhan is 3783 m high, eternal frozen top. From here, Khukh sair, Tsakhir, Bosgo, Khatuu and Uliastai lakes are sourced.
