Khuumii (Mongolian throat singing)

The Mongolian throat singing is the one kind of the song art. Even though some say throat singing discovered many years ago, they still could not find the exact age of it. The term of “Khuumii” is explained by many ways. Some believe that “Khuumii” is the art of sound duplicate. The most popular topic between researchers is undoubtedly “Khuumii”. The attitude of Mongolians idolizing the nature influenced a lot to the origin of it. The art was born from the sense of poems and music and the special throat singing talent. The strength and motivation getting from the earth were found by population with the nature of penetrating its features. So Khuumii has been inseparable part of the main festivals of Mongolians. While developing in steppe, Khuumii has scrawled its types. International researchers are really concentrating on the skills of Mongolian khuumiichid (people singing khuumii) and the whole inhabitants of Chandmani sumu, Khovd province, are good at Khuumii.
Khuumii is one of the greatest arts of Mongolians. There are 4 different types of Khuumii. They are:

  • Kharhiraa – the sound coming from heart of the chest
  • Isgeree – the sound coming from mouth
  • Narmai – the sound coming from nose
  • Shahai – the sound coming from throat skills
